Situated between the renowned Grand Cru Classe terroir of Chateau Haut Brion and Chateau Pape Clement lies a relatively new winery. With the average age of the vines around 25 years. Chateau Picque Caillou imparts similar characteristics of its neighbours' award winning wines.
Grown on fast-draining gravel, the soil enables the vines to develop a deep rooting system that produces excellent grapes which are then hand picked and sorted to prevent bruising. Wine is then aged 12 months in 30% new french oak barrels.
After decanting for 1 hour, the wine is dark crimson, with nose of smoke, dark berries ending with vanilla. Smooth medium to full-bodied mouth with a plummy chewy finish abd a dry lingering finish. 55% Cab Sav and 45% Merlot.
At S$48 per bottle, it is of excellent value for drinking now or keeping it for another 5 years.
